Souris State Bank began its operation on December 9, 1901 in Souris, North Dakota. The original stockholders were M. L. Helgerson of Bottineau, G. S. Ogren of Bottineau, and S. B. Qvale of Willmar, MN. During the fall of September 1982, the bank was bought and owned by a group of men within Bottineau County for the first time in the bank’s history. Those men were Reuben Ellingson, Kenneth Henry, Raymond Kornkven, Gerald Long, Glenn Long, Billy Siercks, Carl Skarphol and Cedric Theel. As we grew in assets our building also needed to grow. In 1983 we added on to the original building making room for four offices and a larger proof and computer room. Providing the residents of Bottineau an investment center for all their investment needs came to be in 1985. Duane Larson is the only broker in the state of North Dakota that is employed with Investment Centers of America the longest length of time. Our board of directors felt a community owned bank was important in helping the bank grow. Their intuition paid off. Our current assets are over $40 million with approximately 65% of our assets being loaned out to the community. We have a branch to help serve you located on the corner of Highway 5 and Main Street in Bottineau, which was acquired in 1999. |
